Blagoevgrad Municipality, in partnership with New Bulgaria Association, organised a round-table discussion entitled “A Future for the Sciences of Antiquity”.
The event opened on 24 October at 1:00 p.m. in Hall “22 September” in Blagoevgrad. The programme continued on 25 October from 9:00 a.m.
The theme addressed the history of research and the institutionalisation of the academic disciplines devoted to the study of antiquity, as well as the purpose and role of the institutions and events established in this field. The round table aimed to examine how systematic research in the study of antiquity is organised.
Eight speakers took part in the event, presenting their research papers. The programme also included time for discussion of the presentations and the questions arising from them.
In October 2018, New Bulgaria Association, in partnership with Blagoevgrad Municipality and academic institutions, organised the round-table discussion “A Future for the Sciences of Antiquity”, bringing together scholars to discuss research, academic cooperation and the development of ancient studies.
In December 2018, the Association, together with the Regional History Museum – Blagoevgrad and New Bulgarian University, organised the seminar “Archilochus and the Thracians”. The event explored the relationship between ancient Greek literature and Thracian history and culture, combining scholarly presentations, new translations and a musical performance accompanied by the lyre.
These initiatives reflect the Association’s commitment to promoting research, interdisciplinary dialogue and public engagement with the ancient cultural heritage.
